Berman believes that the technique of replacing a proverb or an idiom by its ”equivalent” in target language is an emanation of ethnocentrism. It often happens that this move results in absurdity of target text. Berman describes this tendency as an assault on the discourse of the foreign work. He also emphasises that to translate does not mean to search for equivalencies. Example
