Ennoblement means improving the original by rewriting it in a more elegant style. The original is but a starting point to further embellishment and refinement of the translation. This tendency is particularly visible within the scientific area, where the texts become more direct and the sense easier to grasp. Furthermore ennoblement annihilates the “orality” of the original. Equally destructive is a translation that tends to be too “popular” by deliberate use of pseudo-slang. This results in trivialisation and vulgarisation of the original.
